About Frag

About Frag

Just a little introduction for those who’re wondering just who the man behind the keyboard on the far side of the intertubes is.  I’m a fat, opinionated gun nut, a major geek, an otaku, a gamer, and many other things including, but not limited to a complete weirdo, and I’m damn proud of it.

About the Name:
I go by the net handle Fragraham Lincon or Frag for short, a name I’ve been using since the late 90’s.  The name is an obvious combination of the words frag, origins in the word “fragment,” and had by then become gamer slang for blowing something up, and president Abraham Lincoln.  The missing L actually comes from an era of character limits in email and usernames, forcing me to omit one letter.  Since then I’ve left the last L out for the sake of consistency and a distinct personality.  I also go under the name Vinnie D. a shorthand for my real name.

The Second Amendment and I:
As the name of the blog makes obvious, I’m a gun nut.  Being born and raised in Mississippi, I was introduced to firearms early on, getting my first BB gun when I was 6, and my first shotgun a couple years later.  I’ve always had a fascination with weaponry, and the way weapons have shaped history.  I’ve also been a bit of a sword nut, and a history buff.
Though long I’ve supported the fundamental freedoms protected by the U.S. Constitution, I actually hadn’t purchased any firearms myself until 2011, when a friend convinced me to purchase a shotgun, and then a revolver.  Prior to that I’d had a stronger interest in airguns for target shooting.  Ever the tinkerer, I quickly became interested not only in shooting, but also in the engineering aspect of firearms, and enjoyed learning how they worked, and how they could be improved.  Now a few years later, I’m a firearm collector, avid target shooter, a concealed carrier, an amateur gunsmith, and a strong supporter of the essential human right to arm one’s self.

My Personal Politics:
Politically I’m what’s called a “little L libertarian.”  I’m registered as an independent, while my ideals tend toward individual rights, a strong support of the constitution, and fiscal conservatism.  I don’t however entirely tow any one party line.
I think personal liberty is of the utmost importance, but I also believe in law and order.  I’m Pro-Life.  While I respect a woman’s right to privacy, the right to live must come first, and think there can be a better solution.  I have no problem with the idea of charity, but charity by force isn’t charity, it’s robbery.  It has to be a free act of one’s own choosing to help others, and ideally without lining too many politicians’ pockets along the way.  I don’t think government should even be in the business of issuing marriage licenses.  If two people want to file their taxes together, that should be the only thing they care about, and those taxes should be as low as possible.  People should be free to conduct business as they please, but that no more gives a corporation the right to deprive individuals of their liberties than governments should have.  So I don’t really fall in line with the Libertarian party either on every note, but they do put forth some ideals that I tend to agree with.  There are still some local Republicans worth voting for, but you’ll never catch me filling a box for D.

Beliefs:
I don’t typically discuss religion online, but I make no promises that it will never come up.  If you must know I’m a Catholic.  I don’t like being preachy though, so live and let live is how I see it.  I am a Christian as a matter of deep personal introspection and personal choice.  I can not be swayed and if you don’t choose to believe, you can go right on not believing a thing without any complaint from me, and I’ll entertain no evangelizing of any lack of belief on your part.  Things are just more civil.  I choose to go about my faith by living it.

Revolvers or Semi-Auto:
It’s just a matter of Trust.  Revolvers.  In general I’ll take a manual action over an autoloader any day.

AR vs. AK:
It was AK for a while, until I looked into building both, which meant really looking at how they’re engineered.  AR wins it for the versatility of the design.

Other Junk:
In addition to being a gun nut, and a freedom supporter, I’m also an artist, and enjoy cartooning and comics.  I hold a degree in education, and I work as a security professional.  Other than guns I also love cartoons, comics, art, anime, comics, video games, gardening, every genre of music except rap, and teenybopper, (and even those has some exceptions), but am mostly a metalhead, and am a child of the 80’s.
I think that covers the basics, but I doubt I could ever sum up all of my interests at once.  Keep reading, and enjoy.
